Sneaky Peek!

Well folks, the master disc is done, and the "pochette" is nearly finished as well...I am happy to say that the CD will be complete for August 1st, if not before. Your best chance to get an advance copy is to attend the Festival, Memoires Et Racines July 23-26 in Joliette, Quebec. We are all working hard to get the CD out for that date. Here is a rough of the package...comment freely:-0
Love,
Chris

Mixage...

We are just completing the "mixage"of the new Cd"...N2...Yes, it's true...We have a name for it!!!! Our expert engineer, Francis Marion, works as fast as any I have ever been with in the studio. We are working on Nuendo 3.0, which is the same(maybe a newer version) program I used for The Spondoolix EP with my friend: Danny Litwin. We are also using Dreamverb hybrid technology for reverbs...The DV is pretty good for acousitc projects, and I am hopeful that this one will be sweeeeetttt!
Patrick Graham stopped by on Monday to add "udu" drum on "Mon Amiabe Catin". The udu is a sort of bulbous earthenware pot with holes in it...kind of like a big tea pot. The sounds are also "bubbly" and very cool. Stefanie Lepine was in the studio today giving us her excellet ears to balance the flute and fiddle.(You may assume I always mix with too much flute....a bit..sort of...) I will be posting samples of the mixes as they are finished before we master the CD. Tomorrow is my last day here to mix and then Saturday there is a "festival de glace" on the Assumption River in Joliette....Ice skating on the river, a bonfire and a shelter where "Des Temps Anton(Éric Beaudry, Pierre Luc Dupuis, and Andre Brunet will play in a little shelter! My guess is it will be lovely and very cold, but sort of like a dutch renissance painting in winter. Peace and love,
Chris

Recording the Seasons

While making music with my friends, Éric, Steph and Pat is like heaven, the studio is located in an incredible and trully heavenly swale. Situated between the low mountains of St. Côme, Quebec, the area is loaded with lichens and moss of many varieties. In the mornings, when the boggy bits are moist and damp with the dew, the vast selection of fungi and small, "temporal" plants is an excellent meal for the eyes. Each morning we traverse this short road to the studio behind the house of Éric's father. As you can see, nature renders an amazing transformation on this northern landscape as the seasons pass.

Introducing Norouet

Today we are working on the new Norouet CD here in St Côme, Quebec. I began to play with this wonderful band back in 2000 and appeared as a guest when they made their first CD "Spirale" in 2001. The group features fiddler/singer/composer Stéphanie Lépine, percussionist Patrick Graham, and singer/composer/guitarist Éric Beaudry(of La Bottine Souriante fame). Éric created an excellent recording studio in "un grand shack" behind his father's house deep in the back country of Quebec. Already a foot deep, the snowfall is covering the woods in a blanket of feathery white. The pines have a lovely spiral shape: the boughs holding the snow like pallets of white dough. Winnie and Cliquot, the two resident hounds, can do nothing but frolic and play in the chilled fluff. The stillness is calming and a wonderful retreat from the excitement of New York. My pals, Natalie Haas and Yann Falquet will come this next week to add some guest tracks to the CD. I will try to post some photos in the coming days!
Peace, Chris
P.S. Don't forget the solo gig at L'Interlude this Saturday night at 8:30pm!
